End of September 2025

 September 21, 2025.

It’s a late Sunday afternoon. Jean and I went to the early Harvest service this morning then to Firehouse Subs for lunch. She is working on her writing this afternoon and I am watching Nascar and the NFL. 100 laps left in the race at Loudon New Hampshire.

I had the privilege of attending the retirement celebration for Jean’s son in law, Jason Martin. He retired after 30+ years with the Memphis Fire Department. He attained the level of Chief. There was a very large contingent of firefighters, family and friends. We ate at Marshall Steak House. Excellent food and service. It’s only 17 minutes from my house.

On the home front, I have just about recovered from 3 broken ribs suffered in a fall in my living room 7 weeks ago. I would not recommend putting broken ribs on your bucket list. I am just about healed from the knees, lower back and ribs. My mobility has improved greatly. Stamina is still suffering but much improvised over the last 2 months. I have a PT order that I am going to start when the ribs are fully healed.

Mentally, I am improved from the depression I was going thru. Some meds that my doctor Bonnie Barnes prescribed. Plus I am trying to get out of the house more. I’ve finally restarted decluttering in preparation for selling the house in a couple of years. My backyard looks like something out of a Tarzan movie. All I need is huge grape vines and an elephant or two.

My relationship with Jean is great. Seems like the longer we go, the netter it gets. She is a remarkable woman.

Let me speak about my church. The Church of the Harvest in Olive Branch is a small non denominational  church on Goodman Road, east of Spring Hill road. The pastors are great and provide a fantastic delivery of their message. All of the people I have met are good friendly Christians. I have never had a church experience like this and am thankful for Gods delivery . Being a 76 year old former Broadman Hymnal Southern Baptist, I am still struggling with the Praise Music concept. It’s getting better.

My family is doing well although I do not spend enough time with them. Mert and Gus are doing great here in Memphis. Another company was wanting to buy out Gus and his partners. Not sure where that is now but if it comes to fruition, they will be set for life. Chris and Chas are still in Pleasant View, TN. Jenny lives in a house next to theirs. Kayla and family are in a town on the other side of Nashville and all are doing well. Rylee is my star athlete in Volleyball and softball. My brother and Beth are living the retirement life. Joe is in business for himself and he, the wife and kids are in Hernando. Sara and her family live a 1/2 block away from my brother. They are doing well and the kids get bigger every day. Danny and his friend live somewhere in middle Tennessee. Not sure what he does.

My Great grand daughter Rylee Wilbur. Athlete and scholar.

Generally speaking, I am not sure how my life will turn out but I am finding peace in my daily life now. I have stopped listening to news broadcasts and talk shows. There is way too much conflict in America right now. Someone killed Charlie Kirk and that seems to have pushed us toward civil war, in my opinion. That’s all I will say about that. I’ll add a few more phots and wrap this up. Have a great week.
