The Last September 30th 2025 I will ever see

It’s been an exciting day. I was up early and went to the ATM, the Urologist, the farmers market and to Jean’s for a chicken salad lunch. Later, I paid some bills and straightened out a snafu between my secondary Medicare coverage and the Olive Branch ambulance service. I spent a hour or so going through the old photo albums. Those are the hardest to declutter. Later went to Kroger, picked up dinner and dropped off some bananas to Jean. I am back at the house checking the mail and watching a Clint Eastwood movie, “Kelley’s Hero’s”. Got some of my Christmas shopping done today. This has been a good week so far. My urologist is happy with my lifestyle. Anyway, it’s only Tuesday. The garbage is pulled down to the street. Mildred came by last Sunday and picked up the freezer in my garage. (More declutter).  Planning the Atlanta / Nashville trip for Christmas. Deciding who is paying for what and the schedule. I am trying to arrange Thanksgiving dinner between Jean and I & my b...

End of September 2025

September 21, 2025.  It’s a late Sunday afternoon. Jean and I went to the early Harvest service this morning then to Firehouse Subs for lunch. She is working on her writing this afternoon and I am watching Nascar and the NFL. 100 laps left in the race at Loudon New Hampshire.  I had the privilege of attending the retirement celebration for Jean’s son in law, Jason Martin. He retired after 30+ years with the Memphis Fire Department. He attained the level of Chief. There was a very large contingent of firefighters, family and friends. We ate at Marshall Steak House. Excellent food and service. It’s only 17 minutes from my house.  On the home front, I have just about recovered from 3 broken ribs suffered in a fall in my living room 7 weeks ago. I would not recommend putting broken ribs on your bucket list. I am just about healed from the knees, lower back and ribs. My mobility has improved greatly. Stamina is still suffering but much improvised over the last 2 months. ...
Friday July 4, 2025.  Summing up the week.  The Trump bill passed and all kinds of changes are coming. The Defense Department and the Military Industrial complex are getting a lot of money, and I mean A LOT of money .   All of the Green Initiatives  funded under the “Inflation Reduction Act” are gutted.  The industrial Farming Industry is undergoing some changes but it is hard to determine what they are unless you are part of that industry.  Medicare and Medicaid are getting some changes but it is hard to understand unless you are in that business.  There is a lot of language about extending the original Trump tax cuts and increasing deductions for mostly the middle class. Unless you are a CPA, good luck understanding the language.  Anyway, thats as far as I have gotten. My friend Jean’s sister Tina is in the hospital in Nashville. I am taking her to be with Tina in a couple of weeks.  I got my tags for my truck renewed. The sticke...

End Of The Week Rambling  Friday 6/6/25 Its been a good week. Got quite a few things done. I thought I would muse about the military a bit.  This was a typical setting for relaxing between flight quarters when you were working the flight deck. This is sitting on the bow of the flight deck. No noise. Just the sound of the water breaking over the bow 60 feet below you and the wind in your face cruising thru the Med at 25 knots I liked being at sea. This was before the days of computers, e mail, phones, wifi calls to your family, etc. Books, music, letters, newspapers were the medium back then. The mail usually came twice a week, The separation from family and friends was easier without daily reminders of where you were not. The sleeping arrangements, food, noise, heat, odors, and 12 hour work shifts were tolerable and kept you occupied.  We didn't have civilian clothes so it was dress uniform for liberty. (In the last 6 months of my enlistment, that changed). We usually anc...
Friday May 30 2025 It’s been a really quick week. It just seems like yesterday that I was watching the Harvest Church Sunday 0900 streaming service.  I was able to get to the Shelby Farms Market on Tuesday and pick up some fresh tomatoes.  Wednesday we had the Group dinner at the Pastors home. Burritos and all the fixings. Not to mention the spirited conversation afterwards. Today Friday, I was able to finish killing the weeds in the drainage areas of my back yard and east side. There is still a load of work left to be done in the back. I picked up some snacks and dinner at Piggly Wiggly. Currently I am watching a Clint Eastwood movie.  My feet and legs are not cooperating like they should. Maybe I’m thinking about how they worked 10 years ago. Getting old is a challenge.  There is a classic car show at LaBell Haven church tomorrow. I don’t know if my legs and back will let me do that or not. I can take a walker but just somehow, lookin at muscle cars with a wa...

Sunday Afternoon After the Race

I just finished watching the NASCAR race at Martinsville. Earl was excited with the finish. It’s been a great weekend. Yesterday Jean and I watched the Chosen Last Supper movie and went out to eat.  Today we caught the early service at The Church of the Harvest. Great music and message today. Pastor Rob spoke about the roles of women in the church. I loved hearing his message as I have come out of 70 years of the Southern Baptist Convention. I have always believed that if it were not for women, the SBC would have fallen apart years ago. Harvest embraces roles for everyone willing to serve and that’s how it should be. In addition, the Harvest Kids were selling spaghetti meals as a fund raiser. I got 2 and Jean and I lunched together at her house.  My daughter Meredith and her husband Gus are coming back from Austin Texas after a mini vacation. I talked to my other daughter Chris last night. She is staying busy helping her Uncle Jerry with building a new house, working ove...

March 29, 2025 Good evening. I just got back from watching “Chosen The Last Supper”. Good movie. Still has a couple of pieces to come to the theaters. Jean and I went to Mug Shots for dinner afterwards. It has been a good week, I closed on my cash out refi and got funded yesterday. First Horizon charged me a $15 transfer fee when I moved some money to savings. I did it electronically myself. I will be talking in person at First Horizon on Monday. I had my 6 month Urologist checkup on Thursday. I was in the building for 1 1/2 hours to get my BP checked, get punctured for blood and answer 5 minutes of questions for the good doctor. But I did get 5 needle puncture bruises while the nurse was learning how to draw blood. I think she is now eligible to get that license from Walmart now. I took Tracy to her doctor appointment afterwards while Jean took care of the baby. We all went to Applebees for dinner. My Cpap machine is allowing me to get a good nights sleep now. Mert and Gus are in...
