Just Knockin Around the House

Image
I am trying to get a few things done around the house today.  There was one spot on the carpet where the bloodstain from my fall didn't come completely out so I bought a small rug from Amazon. What do you think? One of my kitchen chairs decided to relax and drop a crossmember. I glued and clamped it. I also tightened all of the assembly hardware underneath. It was fairly loose. It is also the chair I sit in all the time. I think a couple of days drying will do the trick, then check the rest of the chairs and the table itself.  I started a firearms collection back in 2017. I've gotten to the point where I just don't go to the range much anymore and decided to try and turn a few of my weapons back into cash. I spoke with a couple of interested people. I'll let you know how it turns out.  Earl says hello. We've not done much together this week. I have his car seat ready to go. I was thinking about trying to get a photo of Earl and our Alderman, Dale Dickerson. What wo...

Birthday Time in the Old South

Jan 24 Jean, Mert and I met my brother Mike and his wife Beth at Pete and Sams restaurant on Park Ave in Memphis today to celebrate my brothers’s 72nd birthday. The restaurant has these huge booths that will seat 8 people. I have never seen those before. Pete and Sams has been around forever. I ate there in the 70’s. They have a really good menu with something for everyone. I had the Beef Tender. Sirloin cooked in a wine sauce with peppers and onions. Pretty good but not the same product I remember. The wine sauce overpowered everything. Probably intentional? All the other food looked good. My brother got the ceremonial honeybun looking sweet cake with a candle. We sang to him and I think he enjoyed it all.

End of the 2024 College Football Season

Well it is that time of the year again. It’s going to be Ohio State or Notre Dame. The championship game is about to get underway in Atlanta. I am not sure who is favored. I like booth teams so I am just looking for a close game. The days of the “amateur” athlete are pretty much over with. College football has become first and foremost a training ground for the NFL Secondly, it is a great money maker for colleges. It’s like another arm of corporate America. Actually, you can look at College football as another American industry. On another note, we swore in Mr. Trump for his delayed second term. I listened to his acceptance speech. If he does 1/3 of what he proposes, there is going to be an awakening in America. Mr Trump brought God back to the White House. I personally find him refreshing. There is a lot of good and bad associated with him. But with him, it will not be the same old tax and spend government.

End of The Week

Image
Good afternoon. I made it thru another Friday. I am still recovering from a fall in my kitchen last friday and the laceration on my head caused by a door frame.  This was a fairly slow week starting out but yesterday was a very positive, get it done day. I caught all my bills up to date, dropped a couple of checks in  the mail, went Krogering, took Jean to dinner last night, missed the Wednesday group, received Earl's doggy car seat from Amazon (I haven't installed it yet), washed the dishes, put all the dirty clothes in the hamper and finally, watched the "Chili Bowl" sprint car races from Tulsa Oklahoma.  You'll see me mention Jean Edison. She goes by her given name Loretta but I've known her since the mid 80's as Jean. She and I have been hanging out together lately going out to eat, to the Church of the Harvest, to the movies, to her family's annual catfish dinner in Shiloh, and to a wonderful Christmas Night celebration at her house. We are both ...

Bad Day at Black Rock

On Friday, the 10th around midnight I took a fall in my kitchen. Pretty ugly scene.  I hit the back of my head on the edge of a cased opening going from my kitchen to the dining room. I laid in the dining room for an undetermined amount of time sharing DNA with the carpet. I crawled into the kitchen, managed to get to my phone. I called my brother, who called my god son Joe, who called Dylan, Jeans grandson. In the meantime, I managed to call Jean who knew how to get into my house. They somehow hooked up and rode to my rescue. They called 911 and thanx to the Olive Branch fire department, made it to the Methodist OLive Branch ER. CT scan, EKG, blood work and 11 staples later Jean got me home. Joe was waiting on us at the ER and stayed with me too.  The next day Jean and Tracy came over and cleaned the blood out of my kitchen. I dont know how to thank folks for things like that. I told them I would buy them a new car apiece, if that makes sense.  (Earls Input) - Dad took a...

Good Morning America. How are ya?

Friday It snowed last night. Probably 7 inches or so. With the temps we have coming, its not going away soon. Maybe if the sun comes out? Earl from Olive Branch is my pet dawg. My two daughters have been telling me that I need a dog. While in Ashland City, TN, right before christmas I found the perfect pet - Photo follows Now Earl has his own bed and I've ordered a puppy seat for him that will keep him safe when he rides in my F150 with me. I plan to include Earl in my Bucket List travels and commentary.  About me - I am a 75 year old retired electrical contractor. My wife, Janet, went home to be with God 3 years ago. I still live in the  same house and have spent the last year getting medical procedures done. Cataract surgery, knee replacement, MRI's, etc. 2025 should be the first year to start my Bucket List. I have a female friend that I spend time with. She is also widowed and a writer. I've known her for many years and she and her husband used to meet Janet and I ou...
